Jesus

Social Justice Humanitas Academy, San Fernando, California

My family shaped me into who I am today.  My family always tells me that it's not easy to grow up. They already have experienced growing up. My sister always tells me to not trust anyone because they could be pretending to be my friend. Those are the same people who if I were to get in trouble, would blame me. Not every person is my friend. I should trust those who I know for a long time.

My family always warns me that when I grow up I am going to have to get a job to start paying bills, taxes, and many other things. When I was small, I would ask my parents for a lot of toys. I would get mad when they would say no. However, as I started to grow up, my sister told me that I can't always get what I want in life. I was shocked because no one had told me that before. Since then, I really don't ask my parents for stuff. If I want something, I am going to work hard for it. My parents also told me that they experience the same issue. Sometimes they cannot have the things that their peers have.

They also push me to do better in school. That's why I've been doing better and my grades have been improving. I am thankful my family pushes me to try my best. Since I am doing well in school, another goal is to get a part-time job in a fast-food restaurant. I would like to get a job to help out my parents and to buy things for myself like clothes, shoes, and games. I also don't have a car, I would like to save up to buy one in the future. Although I know these jobs pay minimum wage, I am willing to work. It is going to take me a long time to save up money, but I am willing to wait. I would also like to open up a bank account so I can have my own money to spend. These are all goals that make me a responsible young adult. I am following in my sister's footsteps.

Another goal that I want to achieve is graduating high school. When I graduate high school, I am planning on going to a trade school so I can learn how to be a barber. I would like to own my own barber shop in the City of San Fernando. That's what my family sees me doing in the future. I want to make them proud, just like my older sister. My sister is the one that motivated me to go to college because that is the exact same thing she is doing so I decided to do the same thing. I am following in her footsteps.

I plan to follow my goals of getting good grades, graduating high school, getting a job, saving money, buying a car, and finally going to college. I have goals I am trying to accomplish for myself and my family. I want to be able to make my parents proud just as much as my older sister has. With my sister being the first to go to college, I know that she has been through much more than I have. I can get her advice and mentorship throughout my journey in life. I know that I will accomplish my goals with the support of my parents, and by having my sister and my brother by my side.
