Tawheedullah

Kent-Meridian High School, Kent, Washington

Two years ago, I was in my room, buried in books, preparing for school exams, when my dad burst in with unexpected news: "We're going to the US soon!" I was stunned. My dream was finally coming true, and little did I know that day marked just the beginning of an incredible journey that would change our lives forever.

Life in Afghanistan was wonderful. I cherished countless memories with my family and friends. However, everything changed when the Taliban seized control in 2021. Suddenly, our dreams of moving to the US seemed shattered as we, along with many others, found ourselves stranded in Afghanistan.

Our journey to a new life began when we moved to Pakistan in December 2022. Crossing the Afghanistan-Pakistan border at Torkham was arduous, taking over six hours due to the overwhelming crowds. But finally, we arrived in Peshawar, where we settled into an apartment and awaited our interview at the US Embassy in Islamabad.

The months passed, filled with challenges and moments of joy. We navigated the ups and downs of life in Pakistan, adjusting to new surroundings and facing unforeseen obstacles. Despite the difficulties, we found comfort in the support of family and the anticipation of what lay ahead.

Eventually, the day arrived for us to embark on our journey to the US. After securing our visas, we made our way to Islamabad Airport, brimming with excitement and anticipation. The journey was long, but as we landed in Washington, greeted by the warmth of family, I felt a sense of belonging and hope for the future.

Settling into our new life, I enrolled in school and embarked on a journey of learning and discovery. Despite the initial confusion, I quickly adapted, embracing new experiences, and making lasting memories with newfound friends.

As summer arrived, I ventured into the workforce, taking on my first job in garden restoration. Working alongside my cousin, we shared laughter and camaraderie, making the experience both fulfilling and enjoyable.

Looking ahead, I am filled with a sense of purpose and ambition. My dream is to become an IT engineer, using technology to make a positive impact on the lives of others, especially the people of Afghanistan. I am passionate about leveraging technology to create opportunities and empower individuals, and I am determined to pursue this career path with dedication and perseverance.

Reflecting on my journey, I've come to realize that every end marks a new beginning. Despite the challenges and uncertainties, I've learned to find strength in adversity and to cherish the moments of joy and growth along the way.

As I look ahead, I feel hopeful for the adventures that await me in this new chapter of my life. Through it all, I've discovered that home is not just a place but a feeling of comfort and happiness, wherever life may take me. And so, I embrace the future with optimism, knowing that with every end, there is the promise of a new beginning.
